Tips

Find out what makes Mission Models paints so special, and how to get the most out of them.
Airbrush or brush?

MMP was designed to work with airbrushes, but it works beautifully with brushes, too. We have some stunning examples of pieces being created with both airbrushes and brushes.

The nature of the ultra fine pigment means they can be used with .15 needles, meaning ultra detailed results.

Do I need to thin the paints?

In short, no. The paints are ready to go from the pot. HOWEVER, we recommend adding thinner to help the paint flow from airbrushes.

The ratio of thinner to paint is 'flexible'. That is, the paint is very forgiving so you can actually use a ratio that works for you. Our general rule of thumb is:

10 drops of paint // 2 drops of thinner

Do I need to use the primer?

In short, no. However, the primer is designed to have better adhesion and will allow the paint to work on a huge variety of surfaces.

In addition, because we have 7 colours to choose from, you will find you can dramatically alter the appearance of the colours you spray over the primer.

Do I need to use the poly mix? What is the poly mix?

In short, no. It is an optional additive. HOWEVER, it adds incredible benefits so we highly recommend using it.

The polymix is a water-based polyurethane that is designed to make the paint ultra tough, flexible and helps it flow from the airbrush.

Mix it in the same ratio as the thinner:

10 drops of paint // 2 drops of polymix

What is "triple pigmented"

In order to create superb coverage and incredible depth of colour we add three times the usual pigment loading that would be used in paint manufacturing.

Can I blend/mix colours?

Yes, you can. The nature of the ultra-fine pigments and the incredible power of the MMP Thinner mean mixing colours is a breeze.

Why would I use the clear coat?

The clear coats come in a gloss, semi-gloss, and flat formula. This will allow you to create the desired scale effect.

The polymix leaves an eggshell finish.

What makes MMP different from other water-based acrylics?

Organic pigments

We use natural pigments

No pre-thinning

We won't pre-thin our paints. That is, the paint is concentrated and, with proper storage and care, will last indefinitely without breakdowns.

Ultra-fine high pigment loading

We use fine art grade pigments ground to improve flow through airbrushes. We increase the pigment loading so the coverage is better so the 1oz bottles go further than other paints.

Easy-to-use

The paint and thinner partnership is a dream team. The ratios don't have to be exact for outstanding performance. This also makes them easy to use for novices.

Versatile

There is no-need to buy pre-made washes because you can use the thinner as a base, add some paint, some water and you have a wash. For a wash:

30 drops thinner // 6 drops paint // .5oz water
